The ALFAVACA rapé blend from the Brazilian Indians of the Katukina tribe was sent to us by our friend Rafa. Rapé Alfavaca is pleasantly “just right” strong.

Alfavaca is a well-known basil (Ocimum campechianum) from the Lamiaceae family, which grows as a wild herb in Brazil. The Indians of the Katukina tribe use it dried and ground into a powder to make Alfavaca rapé, along with the ashes of Jatoba and Murici trees (Byrsonima crassifolia) and Mapacho tobacco (Nicotiana rustica).

The resulting medicine has a refreshing aroma and contains a wide range of medicinal substances. It helps with concentration, meditation, relaxation and expansion of consciousness.

Basil itself is a highly sought-after plant in traditional Amazonian medicine, as its healing, astringent, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, carminative and antibacterial properties are known.

Katukina tribe

The Katukina tribe is an indigenous group that inhabits the southwestern Brazilian state of Acre. They are the traditional bearers of rapé knowledge in the Brazilian Amazon. The people of Katukina are called “People of the Sky, People of the Sun and People of the Otter”. When the people of Katukina share their rapé, there is an opportunity to communicate with a higher level. They believe that heavenly spirits descend behind them to oversee the songs, dances and realities of the earthly world.

It should be given or received with respect and humility. It helps greatly to come up with a clear intention.  The effects and the realization of the intention tends to get stronger.
