Rapé Kanamari Jaguar Tree is unique and simply amazing. In addition to Nicotiana rustica tobacco, it contains a second plant component, namely the ash from the Macambo plant, which is also called as Jaguar Tree. In botanics, Latin name is Theobroma bicolor.
Macambo is a wild relative of the famous cacao tree (Theobroma cacao). Macambo can bring pleasant dreams and good mood, the people of Kanamari use this “jaguar rapé” when it is appropriate to encourage the flow of vigor and enthusiasm into life and clean up the clogged centers of life force.
Rapé was personally prepared by a woman named Raimunda Kanamari, a 70-year-old woman who lives in the Brazilian jungle of the Umariaçú community at the top of the Itaquaí River. She is one of the few who prepares rapé in the traditional way. She knows many plant recipes, knows how to prepare special combinations for different occasions. She has learned this from the elders of her community and has been developing and perfecting this activity all her life. She grows some plants herself, she searches for others in the jungle.
The Kanamari Indian tribe (relatives of the Katukina tribe) live in the lower Amazon region of Peru and Brazil deep within the Amazon rainforest. There are currently an estimated 2,800 Kanamari Indians in Brazil. The people of Kanamari have deep and rich natural knowledge and abilities that they preserve and pass on for generations. They live far from the influences of modern civilization. They are called Kanamari (Canamari) or Tukuna, which means “people”. The Kanamari people are well-known healers (Spanish: curanderos), their distinguishing mark is a tattooed face. Interestingly, the people of Kanamari believe that they were created long ago by Tamakori beings, who then left to form white people elsewhere.
Rapé is a sacred Amazonian instrument, and the indigenous tribes pass it on to us with this message: “The use of rapé should always be associated with prayer or ritual and accepted or given in respect and humility, it will be very helpful if a clear intention is added. The effects and realization of the plan will thus be intensified.”
