Blond plantain (Plantago ovata) is an annual plant, a species of the genus Plantain. It is grown for the healing effects of seeds. Its home is southern European areas, North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Pakistan and India, where the Psyllium we sell comes from.
Psyllium has the ability to swell and increase its volume up to forty times, so even a very small amount fills the stomach and causes a feeling of satiety. In addition, the “gel mass”, which is created by the absorption of excess fluids by psyllium, acts as a piston, so that it reliably removes harmful feces that occur in the stomach and intestines during food processing.
Psyllium is very gentle and does not irritate the walls of the stomach and intestines, so it is recommended for people who, due to the sensitivity of the digestive system, cannot use fiber from bran, whole grain cereals, or dried fruit. Substances that are formed by the combination of fluids from the digestive tract and psyllium have a similar effect as flaxseed and can also have a regenerative effect on the entire digestive system.
Psyllium does not contain gluten, in addition it is not addictive, so it is suitable for long-term use instead of common laxatives, which have side effects.
Recommended dosage:
1 to 2 teaspoons of fiber are mixed in lukewarm water, tea, juice, or other liquid and allowed to swell for 5 minutes. It is then consumed in the morning or in the evening before meals. The maximum daily dose is 5 grams.
Always use psyllium with plenty of water, as without it it can paradoxically cause bloating or constipation!
If you add psyllium to drinks or food, always keep in mind that your daily fluid intake must be at least 2 more liters. Don’t forget 8 glasses of water every day.
In case of diarrhea, 1 to 3 teaspoons of psyllium help to thicken and increase the intestinal contents. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids with fiber!
