Rapé blend TSUNU from Brazilian Indians of the Katukina tribe was sent to us by our friend Rafa. It is one of the most traditional types of rapés and is quite strong.
The rapé is prepared from strong Brazilian Mapacho tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) and ash from the Tsunu tree (it is the same tree as Pau Pereira, botanically Platycyamus regnelii – for a more detailed explanation, read the label for the Katukina Pau Pereira rapé). The bark and wood of the Tsunu tree are used in traditional Amazonian medicine for rinsing, cleansing and general body revitalization.
The recipe for rapé Tsunu probably comes from the Brazilian Yawanawá tribe, from which it has spread to other Indian communities. The people of the Yawanawa tribe love rapé Tsunu and call it “Rume”. They use Rume in all their ceremonies with “Uni” (so called Ayahuasca drinks), during the day it is a frequent guide to meetings of tribe members, it is also often used before swimming in the river and then with the intention of a deeper connection with Mother Earth and nature.
Rapé Katukina Tsunu has a very pleasant feminine character, awakens and brings cleansing energy, in traditional medicine it is used to help with migraines, flu, to reduce fever and indigestion. It also helps treat nasal problems such as sinusitis and runny nose, and can help people living in the city breathe better and reconnect with themselves overall.
This rapé is very suitable as a support during ceremonies with the Ayahuasca plant (Banisteriopsis caapi). Rapé Katukina Tsunu is ideal for connecting with female energy, for healing and purification, as well as for reconciling energy channels and has a strong effect on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
Katukina tribe
The Katukina tribe is an indigenous group that inhabits the southwestern Brazilian state of Acre. They are traditional carriers of rapé in the Brazilian Amazon. The people of Katukina are called “People from heaven, people from the sun and people from the otter”. When the people of Katukina share their rapés, there is an opportunity to communicate with a higher level. They believe that heavenly spirits descend after them to oversee the songs, dances, and reality of the earthly world.

Conscious use – ritual
Rapé is a sacred Amazonian instrument, and the indigenous tribes pass it on to us with this message: “The use of rapé should always be associated with prayer or ritual and accepted or given in respect and humility, it will be very helpful if a clear intention is added. The effects and realization of the plan will thus be intensified. It is important to keep your heart clean at all times.”
