Ginger (Zingiber officinale), is a plant from the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It can be yellow, ocher to red; has a distinct resinous smell; its taste is very distinct, aromatic, faintly fruity to citrus and sweetly spicy (in larger quantities it is even very sharp). It is an essential part of Indian and Chinese cuisine. It is used in sweet and salty dishes, as well as beer or lemonade. Fresh, dried, boiled and pickled, it has a beneficial effect on human health.
