An interresting herb used for calming the spirit and general sedation
Erythrina mulungu is a tropical medium-sized tree from the bean family (Fabaceae), it usually grows to a height of around 10-14 meters. It is one of the important natural Amazonian medicines. Some of you may know Mulungu rapé.
The fruit of the tree is a black pod containing red seeds. These seeds are often used by the Indians to make ornaments and because of their color and they are sometimes called “coral flower” because they resemble the color of orange coral. The tree usually grows in swampy areas.
An infusion of the bark acts as a natural sedative, calms the nervous system and promotes restful sleep. In ancient times, it was allegedly drunk by warriors to overcome their innate fear of death.
Mulungu contains substances that have a beneficial effect on the human organism. Flavonoids, triterpenes and alkaloids are the most represented.
Instructions for preparation
Use 2-4 grams of crushed bark for one cup (250 ml), cover with 80°C water and leave to infuse for about 15 minutes, then drain.
