Those of you who have attended a classic Ayahuasca ceremony with an indigenous Amazonian “shaman” / healer / medicine man will surely remember the sounds of a special plant rattle, usually called “Chacapa”, sometimes written “Chakapa” or “Shakapa”. In Colombia they call it “Guaira sacha”.
It is a special ceremonial “rattle” or “broom”, which is more of a spiritual instrument than a musical instrument. The Shakapa is perhaps the most important shamanic tool used by shamans in the Amazon. Chakapa are used to produce healing and cleansing sounds. They are a great tool to awaken the healing power and to support the deep cleansing of energies and forces.
The Chacapa rattle that you can buy from us if it “calls” you is made from the leaves of the Chacapa Pariana plant from Ecuador, in the Rio Napo province, by an indigenous friend of the Quechua (Kichua) tribe.
After all, no fresh leaves from the Amazon can be sent to any country without a lot of official documents, because it would be considered dangerous plants. Drying the leaves made the chakapa all mast, but we can’t do it otherwise. It is packaged so that it reaches you without damage.
After receiving the chakapa, we recommend carefully unwrapping it and hanging it in a damp place for a few hours, such as a bathroom after a hot shower. You can then straighten the leaves into their shape.
