We are very pleased to offer you rapé Canela de Velho. The blend of Canela de Velho rapé from the Brazilian Kaxinawa Indians was sent to us by our friend Rafa, who lives on the outskirts of Sao Paolo and often travels to visit the Indians, supporting them in their traditional work.

The Canela de Velho rapé is a quality rapé from the Kaxinawá tribe in Brazil. The strong Mapacho (Nicotiana rustica) is joined by ash from the Canela de Velho bush.

Canela de Velho (Miconia albicans)

Canela de Velho (Miconia albicans) of the family Melastomataceae

Canela de Velho is a member of the Melastomataceae family. It is a very hard tree or larger shrub (usually 0.7 to 3 m in size) that has almost white wood, very clean. Also known as quaresmeira-de-flor-branca, it grows commonly in northeastern Brazil.

Kaxinawa

The Kaxinawá, or also Huni Kuin, are indigenous people of Brazil and Peru. Their villages are located along the Purus and Curanja rivers in Peru and the Tarauacá, Jordão, Breu, Muru, Envira, Humaitã and Purus rivers. In the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, some Kaxinawé live in the indigenous territory of Alto Purús with the inhabitants of Kulina. The Kaxinawá are also known as the Cashinauá, Caxinauá or Kashinawa people. This name comes from kashi or “bat” and nawa meaning “outsiders” or “strangers”. Their autonym is Huni Kuin or “real people” or “real people”, from huni, “man” and kuin, meaning “real” or “true”. Their language belongs to the Pano linguistic family, which they call hatxa-Kuin (true language). The population is approximately 4,000 people and they represent 42% of the indigenous population of the state of Acre in western Brazil.
