Palo Santo (“Holy Wood”) Incense, whole sticks

 5.60 44.00 incl. VAT

Palo Santo means “holy wood” in Spanish. This is a name for a fragrant wood from a tree with the Latin name Bursera graveolens. It grows in Ecuador, Peru and partly in Mexico and other South American countries. As the name holy wood suggests, Palo Santo is greatly respected by all the indigenous people of South America.

It has been used for millennia for incense treatment of persons, animals, things and space, it is ignited in traditional shamanic ceremonies, but it can also be used in everyday life. It is also traditionally used in folk medicine, for example for stomach pains, it is used to make essential oils, ointments, tinctures or fragrances.

Almost every South American shaman ignites Palo Santo at the beginning of each ceremony to clean the area where it takes place, clean the things that will be used in during the ceremony, as well as all participants in the ceremony. Scented smoke purifies and relaxes, prayers rise to heaven with a fragrant smoke. Palo santo wood with its smoke evokes a calm and relaxed atmosphere, it is advisable to light it during a meditation. It also repels insects, so it acts as a natural repellent.

How is Palo Santo used?

Use a match or lighter to light one end of the stick, let it burn for a while, and then blow out the flame. The wood should start to smolder and emit a pleasant sweet smoke. You can then “pick up” the smoke with your free hand and symbolically spread it all over your body with thoughts and the intention of cleansing.

Please observe sufficient safety when handling fire and fumes. It is highly recommended to place burning Palo Santo stick on a non-flammable surface such as porcelain saucer.
