SACHA INCHI oil (Plukenetia volubilis L. Oleum ex semen)

Semi-woody, obovate, shrubby, climbing herb, growing in low as well as higher altitudes of the rainforest. However, archaeological findings show that it was cultivated in preInca times on the Pacific coast. The seeds are commonly used as food, both cooked and roasted. In the San Martín area, the seeds are used to make dishes called inchicapi, lechona api or pururuca. The oil from the seeds has been used since time immemorial. Nowadays it is cultivated on large areas because the oil obtained from the seeds is valued for its unique composition, especially its high content of unsaturated fatty acids Omega 3,6,9.

Use:
